Brian Crawford presented at the TOOL DEMONSTRATION AND JOB AID ROUNDTABLE of Social Coast 2020 conference on February 4. He offered a mini-workshop on IMPROVING THE EFFICIENCY OF SOCIAL SURVEYS USING PAPERLESS, TABLET, AND SMARTPHONE BASED SURVEY TOOLS: KOBO TOOLBOX
a free, open source online paperless survey tool that can be administered on smart phones or tablets.
Don Robadue gave an oral presentation on February 5: FINDING THE BLUE ECONOMY IN THE MIST: VISUALIZING GROWTH PATTERNS AND ATTRIBUTES OF SOCIAL NETWORKS THAT SUPPORT SUSTAINABILITY AND TRANSFORMATION OF TRADITIONAL SUB-SECTORS THROUGH INNOVATION, prepared with co-author Dawn Kotowicz. The presentation summarized findings of a social network analysis of Rhode Island and the Northeast US blue economy supported in part by GSO Dean's Office and Sea Grant.

Was this project successful? If so, how?

Both sessions were well attended (40 in the oral presentation) and received positive feedback by NOAA officials and others.

Do you plan to continue this work or for it to evolve into a new project?

The Coastal Resources Center continues to promote the use of Kobo toolbox in both research and development assistance projects. A report on Rhode Island's blue economy is under preparation by CRC and will include greater detail on findings summarized in the Social Coast presentation.
