| Please describe the overall project including how this CI catalyst grant particularly contributed to the overall project. | The Coastal Institute catalyst grant enabled me to put together a panel of advisers to meet online, clarify our film’s focus, resolve some issues, and remove topics from project that were outside of the scope of what became the submission Rhode Island Council for Humanities. That panel, as was initially proposed, was a mix of fisherman, scholars, filmmakers, etc. |
| What did you achieve? (E.g., intellectual outcome, change in methodology, grant proposal, pedagogical changes, outreach, etc.) The CI is as interested in the failure of an idea and lessons learned as its success. | We used some of the Coastal Institute funding to hire a film budget expert and an archival researcher to help us understand how to realistically prepare a budget for the film and how to plan for the historical film footage that will be used in the film. We also payed the producer, to interview a number of humanities scholars, to further film and interview some of the women at the core of the film. The Rhode Island Council for the Humanities has a special category of grants for documentary film projects, and that’s the category where we submitted this project which was funded. |
