SSEER Workshop Goal
The purpose of the annual SSEER workshop is to share resources and provide training to improve the ability of scientists, administrators, communicators, and first-responders to assist the state of Rhode Island in addressing environmental emergencies and threats to public health and safety.
Invited Guest Court King
Invited guest Court King has significant experience assisting youth from underserved Black, Indigenous, LatinX populations. She will discuss ways in which the SSEER network can assist these communities in the face of environmental threats. Court King is a Providence native and URI alumna with a Bachelors in Political Science and almost fifteen years of youth development work. Well known for her engagement of youth in building community, Court’s work is rooted in a deep love for progress. As a Black queer and non-binary person, she pulls from her identities to help shape a new future. When talking about her work she focuses on her expertise in softening and re-softening Black youth. Court’s interest in formerly silenced voices, critical analysis and public engagement informs all of her work. Using themes of oppression, storytelling and pop culture, Court’s work challenges viewers to think deeply about themselves, the reality of the world around them and the intentional creation of a new world.
