Provide a short paragraph stating why the project is best administered by the Coastal Institute. | This work has major implications for the underlying mechanisms supporting coastal food web structure and ecosystem dynamics linked to climate change. Specifically, we address two major climate concerns in coastal marine system, the influence of rising sea surface temperature and changes in ocean circulation on productivity, biogeochemical cycling, and plankton dynamics that support critical regional fisheries and endangered whale populations. In addition, this project has a comprehensive science education and public outreach component, facilitated through a partnership with PBS. This work aligns well the CI mission dedicated to increase our understanding of the relationships between human activity and the condition of the coastal environment and its resources. Our project would be well served by integrating with the CI partnership with local and regional stakeholders invested in forecasting future changes in continental shelf ecosystem dynamics and the goods and services they provide. |
