Provide a short paragraph stating why the project is best administered by the Coastal Institute. | These weekly sampling of the plankton and fish communities provide an integral component of coastal monitoring in Rhode Island. The data have been used in numerous thesis and publications and to address practical applied problems in resource management. For example, the plankton sampling is used to detect and monitor harmful algal blooms. The fish trawl provides long-term fishery independent survey data to support the stock assessments of several federally managed groundfish species (e.g. winter flounder, summer flounder). |
