Provide a short paragraph stating why the project is best administered by the Coastal Institute. | This project is consistent with the mission of the Coastal Institute. Ecosystem services are generated from the agricultural and forest landscape, including water quality, biodiversity, environmental flow, carbon sequestration, coastal amenities, and aesthetic values. The continued degradation of the rural landscape from urbanization results in losses of ecosystem services. Land conservation mitigates these losses. However, it is at times difficult to rally support for additional conservation spending. This project seeks to better understand preferences for conservation, how and why preferences may be different in different settings, and how political institutions may best serve conservation goals. |
