Project TitlePopulation Assessment of Wood Turtles in Rhode Island and Combatting Illegal Trade
Funding Amount Requested (may be an estimate)*$76,500.008
Provide a short paragraph stating why the project is best administered by the Coastal Institute.

Wood turtles live in streams and rivers throughout Rhode Island and they play important ecological roles, including the movement of energy and nutrients between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and aiding in seed dispersal and germination of the fruits they eat. This species serves as an important link between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and their conservation is necessary for maintaining these ecological connections in Rhode Island. These issues are key to the goals of the Coastal Institute.
