R/V Endeavor Painting Dedicated to the URI Graduate School of Oceanography

On July 5th, an oil painting of the R/V Endeavor was dedicated to the URI Graduate School of Oceanography by artist Eric Lutes and the Coastal Institute. Lutes is a URI alumnus with a significant resume of work in theatre, film and television as well as a burgeoning career as a painter. This painting represents a tradition of blue water exploration that has been fundamental to GSO since its inception and its artistic portrayal commemorates a research vessel that embodies the GSO mission. The R/V Endeavor is nearing retirement having served GSO for 42 years, traveled more than a million nautical miles, and completed nearly 600 expeditions. The painting will be on permanent display in the OSEC building.
