My interests in coastal issues include helping prepare coastal communities to prepared for, respond to, and recover from events, natural or man-made, that impact their ability to sustain the economy as well as personal interests (residences, businesses, recreation, etc.). Building coastal resilience through research, application of science, and development and implementation of policies that are based on supporting data. I am very interested in strategic approaches to coordinate efforts that will help advance coastal resilience - lead PI for the DHS Coastal Resilience Center of Excellence (should it be awarded to URI), leading collaborative efforts of multiple institutions to pursue establishment of a NOAA Cooperative Institute on Coastal Resilience, and in my role as the Director of Administration (and to a growing extent Research) for GSO I am particularly interested in helping guide GSO and the region forward through a well thought out, well articulated strategic plan to advance GSO into the next 10 to 15 years.
