I serve as the Director of a planning, building and zoning office in Barrington, RI. “Resilience” was added to the title of the department before I joined the Town to underscore the importance of resilience to Barrington’s future planning challenges. Barrington is low-lying with 20 miles of coastline and one of the highest acreages of salt marsh within in a RI municipal boundary. I bring over 14 years of experience with coastal resilience from my work at the URI Coastal Resources and RI Sea Grant, where I focused on facilitation of municipal-scale projects that addressed coastal adaptation to climate change and sea level rise. This work involved evaluating spatial data to identify challenges and opportunities with municipal stakeholders, while collaboratively considering policies and projects that may increase coastal resiliency.
