My research and outreach focus is on the ecology and conservation biology of marine vertebrates, particularly whales, dolphins, seals, sea turtles, sharks and other large fishes, and seabirds. I am especially interested in the effects of natural and human-caused environmental impacts on marine food chains and apex predators. Because of my experience with “charismatic megafauna,” I have become involved in a number of efforts to mitigate the impacts of such things as military operations, coastal and industrial development, shipping, and commercial fishing on marine populations and resources.
