Peter Hanlon

Peter Hanlon is the director of GSO Public Engagement, where he leads a multifacted team of communications and education specialists dedicated to engaging a wide variety of audiences with ocean science and exploration. Peter has dedicated his career to using any and every tool available to reach audiences with sustainability and environmental messaging; everything from touring with an inflatable 15-foot rubber duck to pitching stories about robotic sailboats.

At GSO, Peter works within a community of marine scientists, filmmakers, educators, administrators, storytellers, research vessel crew and many others to create clear, actionable and inclusive communications and engagement projects.

Prior to his position at GSO, Peter worked with government agencies, nonprofits and family foundations on issues including coastal management, community planning, renewable energy policy, the food/water/energy nexus and sustainable food systems.
