I am an interdisciplinary social scientist studying vulnerability and adaptive capacities of coastal communities in the global South, with a focus on Southeast Asia. I explore how marginalized groups are impacted by changes in their surroundings, and how these groups negotiate their situation vis-à-vis development under such changes. My current research program also explores the interface between global changes and sustainable equitable development, specifically, how Southeast Asian States understand and implement global processes such as the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the impacts of this on equity and equality outcomes at the local level.
