Biography

Xiaoyi Zhao is a Master’s student in Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island, focusing on nature-based solutions to combat coastal erosion. Her research on Block Island integrates numerical modeling and field data to explore sediment dynamics during extreme weather events. She is interested in using multidisciplinary approaches, including statistical modeling and machine learning, to address pressing coastal challenges. She envisions a future where scientific innovation and community collaboration come together to create resilient coastal environments.
