Biography
Elizabeth Mendenhall received her PhD in International Relations in 2017, and is now an Assistant Professor of Marine Affairs with a Limited Jointed Appointment in Political Science. She also serves as the Graduate Program Director for Marine Affairs. Dr. Mendenhall’s research focuses on the drivers and mechanisms of change in the global ocean governance regime, with a special focus on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Area of Interest
My work focuses on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea specifically, and the international ocean governance regime more generally. So I am interested in the relationship between coastal state rights and duties and those of foreign users in different parts of the coastal zone. I do not do domestic law of policy - I study international treaties and inter-governmental organizations.
