About the Coastal Institute

The University of Rhode Island Coastal Institute was established in 1998 to support the growth of multi- and interdisciplinary coastal ecosystem research, discourse, and policy engagement at URI. Efforts to encourage cross-college collaboration are housed under the URI Vice President for Research and Economic Development. CI is also tasked with nurturing partnerships between URI, the state of Rhode Island, federal agencies, Rhode Island municipalities, non-profit organizations working on local coastal issues, and coastal researchers from other universities.
