Christopher Deacutis

For over 20 years, I oversaw applied research and monitoring for the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program (URI-RIDEM-USEPA), including development of ecological assessment indicators and development of dissolved oxygen and macroalgae monitoring programs in Narragansett Bay. From 2013-2017, I worked at the RIDEM Marine Fisheries Lab on marine habitat restoration and mapping efforts. I retired from RIDEM in 2017. Over my 31 year career with RIDEM, I thoroughly enjoyed working with my colleagues at RIDEM as well as many researchers at US EPA AED lab, URI, Brown University, and Rogers Williams Univ. on collaborative projects covering various Narragansett Bay issues. I have also worked with local environmental NGOs including Save the Bay and The Nature Conservancy of RI on Bay issues. I taught Intro Physics and Biology to non-science majors at the URI College of Continuing Education (now closed) for over 20 yrs, and Marine Ecology at Providence College School of Continuing Education from 2007 to 2022. I greatly enjoyed the interaction with adults interested in adding to their knowledge and completing degrees while working full time & raising families, as well as with day students completing their core science requirement, all of them preparing our world for the future.
