Work/Interest in Coastal Issues I have been involved with marine pollution and estuarine management issues for over 25 years. My M.S. graduate research (Biol. Ocg) involved impacts of power plant thermal releases on larval fish, and my Ph.D. dissertation (Biol.Ocg.) examined effects of oil on feeding behavior in fish. Following graduation, I spent several years working under contract investigating impacts of toxics on marine organisms. In 1986, I began working with the RI Dept. of Environmental Mgt., dealing with water quality issues related to RI surface waters. Since 1993, I have overseen the science/research activities of the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program (NBNEP, one of 28 EPA federally-funded national estuary programs). In 1999, I took on additional duties to coordinate research activities for the Prudence Island Narragansett Bay Estuarine Research Reserve (NBNERR). The most recent research activities I have been involved in include: use of remote sensing in assessment of thermal load impacts by a significant power plant thermal release to Mount Hope Bay; restoration of critical habitats , especially eelgrass beds and saltmarshes; invasive / introduced marine species in Narragansett Bay; investigation of extent of low dissolved oxygen waters and relationship to nutrients in Narragansett Bay.
